ALBUMS (DEMONSTRATION):

Buck Naked (Fall 1988 Demo)
Cassette:
     bn

  1. Road Runner
  2. Only You
  3. Night Photographs
  4. Wishing Well
  5. Really Don't Know

This cassette really shouldn't be in the discography considering there probably were not 100 copies of this tape made. I decided to include it for the sheer fact I that I know it exists and found some interesting differences between this and the "real demo" 'Buck Naked. The cover of the only known one to exist to this date is green and has a picture of Steve and Ed [with their faces possibly pasted on other bodies?] with mullets. Ed is smiling while Steve is looking down All text is hand written by Steven. Noticable differences are the "acapella" beginning to 'Only You' [Lilac Girl], an unknown male sings the verses to Night Photographs [while Steve sings back-up], and although this version of Wishing Well appears on later versions of 'Buck Naked' this one has an extended ending with a new keyboard part and some "interesting" sounding screams by Steve as it fades. Road Runner is different from the later demo but there is nothing drastic enough to note. Really Don't Know appears exactly the same as it does later. Steve Page and 'Eddie' Robertson are the only ones cited in the "liner notes." It reads, "Steve Page: Sitar" and "Eddie Robertson: Tablas". Some drums [not congas strangely enough since they had not yet met Tyler] do occasionally appear. Steve and Ed's home phone numbers are also listed for contact. On this particular copy a small note appears on the j-card: "This is the kind of Christmas present you receive from a poverty stricken barenaked lady." The label on the cassete is hand written as well. An added, unexpected "bonus" is that the other side contains most of the tracks from the 1980 'Police' album, Zenyatta Mondatta. Rock on, guys.

BARENAKED LUNCH (1990)
Cassette:
     pp002c Page Publications (Canada)

  1. Night Photographs
  2. Trouble With Tracy
  3. Blame It On Me
  4. Be My Yoko Ono
  5. If I Had $1,000,000

This demo tape is usually referred to as "The Pink Tape". The songs were recorded on Ed's Yamaha 4 track recorder, with Ed and Steve producing and Ed mixing. Tyler is not featured on the cassette because he had yet to join. 2,000 copies were made, but all were mastered incorrectly, and they play too fast. As a result, very few tapes are in circulation.

BARENAKED LADIES (1991)
Cassette:

CD:
Cheree 26CD Cheree Records (England, 1992)

  3. Blame It On Me (3:49)
  4. If I Had $1,000,000 (3:49)
  5. Fight The Power (1:33)(cassette only)

This demo tape is referred to as "The Yellow Tape". Early versions incorrectly spell Tyler Stewarts name as "Tyler Steward". This cassette is the only indie release to ever crack the Top 100, much less the top 20. Shortly before "Gordon" it was re-released by Cheree Records in England in CD and 12" vinyl format, with a sandwich and a broken guitar on the cover.
